We recently wrote about the fierce rivalry between New Mexico and Colorado over which state makes the best green chili. We dived into some of the restaurants in and around Denver serving up some of the state’s finest green chili. Today, we suggest a few places in New Mexico, so if you’re in the area, you can decide for yourself which state truly makes the best:

Sadie’s: Family owned and operated, Sadie’s has been serving the New Mexico community some of the state’s best chili for the past 50 years.  Sadie’s blends together New Mexico “Hatch” green chiles, fresh jalapenos and a few other ingredients to give it a bold kick. Sadie’s uses family recipes that have been passed down through the generations and almost all dishes come with enough chili to smother your meal. Sadie’s house specialties are enchiladas, but if you’re up for a challenge, try the Stuffed Sopaipilla Challenge that defies you to eat 7 pounds of food in 60 minutes.  6230 Fourth Street NW Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87107

Frontier Restaurant: Many claim that the Frontier Restaurant serves the best green chili cheeseburger in the entire country.  Its Bonanza Burger is crafted from two quarter-pound patties, Cheddar cheese and bacon topped with New Mexico’s favorite beloved green chili. Frontier’s famous green chili can also be ordered separately as a stew, inside burritos or smothering enchiladas.  Originally catering to the locals and students from the nearby University of New Mexico, it now has become a national sensation after being featured on the Travel Channel’s Man vs. Food Nation. 2400 Central SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106

La Salita: La Salita keeps its green chili simple to deliver an “honest representation of New Mexico.” La Salita’s green chili focuses on the main ingredient, fire roasted Hatch green chilies, combined with a unique blend of spices. You can order it as a stew, slow marinated pork with a blend of fresh green chili strips, homemade pinto beans, onions, and local spices- or smothering traditional New Mexican dishes. 1217 Eubank Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112
