Food trucks are redefining the work week lunch. Serving gourmet Mexican and Korean specialties, fresh lobster, authentic dumplings and decadent desserts, food trucks are hitting the streets nationwide, offering some of the best and most creative menus. As one of the largest cities in the county, Chicago has inspired many chefs to take their talents on the road. Who benefits? Well, everyone of course…especially those professionals who can’t spare an hour away from their desks for a decent bite.
Here’s our some of our favorite meals on wheels in the Windy City:
The Slide Ride: Considered by many to be Chicago’s original slider truck, the Slide Ride serves some of the best mini sandwiches on the go. We suggest trying the signature Bacon Baby Burger (a certified Angus burger topped with cheddar cheese, brown sugar bacon and caramelized mustard onions),the Sriracha Buffalo Chicken (pulled chicken in a spicy siracha sauce with ranch), or the vegeterian Caprese slider. Track their location on Twitter @theslideride.
Taquero Fusion: If you are craving tacos, track down Taquero Fusion, which combines the flavors of Latin America with traditional Mexican cuisine. You can get beef, chicken pork or veggie tacos and sides like guacamole or rice. Find Taquero on Twitter @taquerofusion.
The Hummingbird Kitchen: Serving “gourmet food on wheels”, the Hummingbird Kitchen has become a staple to the Chicago food truck scene. Vince DiBattista, executive chef for the Hummingbird opts for quality over quantity. With a menu that changes almost weekly, there are usually no more than 4 or 5 dishes available at a time. The select meals that are available, however, are definitely worth the hype. On the docket this week: Texas Beef Burrito, vegetarian quinoa burrito, garlic fries and mini valihona chocolate panna cottas. Yum! Find the Hummingbird on Twitter @hummingbirdtogo.
